Louisiana is
Shop Rite Territory
This
whole area has a richly unique
history. Many parishes---and we
are the only state in the Union
to use that term for our smaller
administrative areas----have a
multilingual, multiculteral
heritage, expecially here in the
regions around the Shop Rite
chain of stores.
The influence of our Spanish,
French and African ancestry has
made Soutlhern Louisiana an
exceptional place to visit or
live. Many travel writers say
that this region, with its
dance, music and unique blend of
spirituality, is a must visit
location for any US visitor or
native son.
Louisiana means “Land of
Louis” and was named after King
Louis X1V of France by the
explorer Sieur de La Salle. De
La Salle in fact claimed all the
land that now encompasses
Louisiana along with the then
largley unexplored territory
stretching up to the French
Colony in Canada. Talk about a
land grab.
This French heritage gave the
Arcadians a place to head
to---Southern Louisiana-----when
the English demanded they leave
their farms in Canada and
relocate to the United States.
The name Arcadian was shortened
to Cajun and you can still
experience the language and
culture of those early settlers
in Houma and other areas of
Southern Louisiana.
In fact St Martinsville is
where the Evangeline oak of
Longfellow’s famous poem
commemorating one of those
settlers is located.
Shop Rite is Southern
Louisiana through and through,
from our service to our tasty
local delicacies, so come and
visit when you are in the area.
